An armed robber is behind bars and a traffic officer is in hospital after a gang of nine men hit the Kibler Park Spar.
Joburg police spokesperson Inspector Lorraine van Emmerik said the men entered the Spar at 6pm on Monday and threatened staff and customers.
"At the same time they pistol-whipped a security guard on patrol in the area and dragged him into the shop."
A metro police officer was coincidentally walking to the supermarket just as the gang was making its escape, she said. The gang opened fire, seriously injuring him.
As the gang fled the scene, other JMPD officers were alerted to the robbery and gave chase. They managed to arrest one suspect. - Staff Reporter
