Kingston - Yuvraj Singh struck a merciless 131 from 102 balls as India amassed 339 for six against West Indies in the opening one-day international (ODI) in Jamaica on Friday.
India, who had a poor Twenty20 World Cup this month, became only the second team to pass 300 in an ODI at Sabina Park and the hosts now need an extraordinary effort to win the first game of the four-match series.
West Indies made a decent start to reduce India to 32 for two in the eighth over but then came a 135-run partnership between Yuvraj and opener Dinesh Karthik.
After Karthik was caught behind by Denesh Ramdin off David Bernard for 67, India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni provided ideal support as Yuvraj powered towards his century.

The left-hander, who smashed his 12th ODI ton, took a particular liking to Jerome Taylor, thumping the paceman for two fours and three sixes to blast 31 runs in 13 deliveries.
Yuvraj fell when he tickled a Dwayne Bravo delivery down the leg side to keeper Ramdin but Dhoni struck 41 and Yusuf Pathan compiled a swift unbeaten 40.
The highest ODI score made at Sabina Park was Pakistan's 349 all out against Zimbabwe in the 2007 World Cup.
The highest target successfully chased at the venue is South Africa's 255 for two against West Indies in 2005.
