Seville, Spain - Six people were killed and four injured, one seriously, in a fire at a retirement home in the southern Spanish city of Seville, a local authority spokesman said on Tuesday.
The blaze broke out around midnight in a third-storey apartment and spread throughout the building before being put out by firefighters.
Of the six victims - four women and two men - five died from smoke inhalation and one burned to death.
A spokesman for the town authorities said the four injured were in hospital and one was in a serious condition.
When the fire started there were 19 residents and two guardians in the home, which is in the centre of Seville.

Several media reports indicate the blaze is the deadliest to hit a Spanish retirement home in at least 10 years. The cause of the fire is not yet known. - Sapa-AFP
