Pristina - A vehicle used by the European Union's law enforcement mission in Kosovo (EULEX) was attacked and damaged near the border with Serbia early Saturday, Kosovo police said.

A police satatement said the assailants fired shots and hurled a grenade at the vehicle in the northern part of Kosovo.

"An explosion and gunfire was registered after midnight at Border Gate 31 in Brnjak," the statement said. "No one was injured."

The gate was torched in February 2008, just days after Kosovo's Albanian majority declared independence.

Northern Kosovo is populated mainly by Serbs who do not recognize Kosovo's government. The area has since become a breeding ground for cross border crime and criminals of both ethnic groups.
