Moscow - Three people were killed and five wounded in a massive brawl in Russia's Caucasian republic of Dagestan, Russian news agencies reported Saturday.

"Some 200 people from each side were fighting, using firearms. Three people were killed, five wounded," police said as quoted by Interfax, adding that the clashes were between locals from the Gergebel and Gikuni villages.

Dagestan is part of Russia's volatile North Caucasus, where authorities are struggling to quash a Muslim insurgency which Kremlin calls its biggest headache. - Sapa-AFP
