SABC Zulu news presenter Sibongile Sokhulu has died at the age of 43.

The ANC's KwaZulu-Natal branch said Sokhulu, from Umlazi in Durban, died in a Johannesburg hospital on Thursday morning after breast cancer complications.

"The ANC will always remember Sokhulu from the time when she was a teacher at a school in Umlazi, where she distinguished herself as a dedicated daughter of the soil," the party said in a statement.

Sokhulu later left teaching to join the arts industry.

She joined the SABC as a news presenter after starring in the television series, Shaka Zulu, in which she acted the part of Nomcebo. - Sapa
