The Friends of Jacob Zuma Trust set up three months ago to raise funds for the former deputy president's legal costs is facing a financial crisis, the Mail and Guardian newspaper reported on Friday.
It quotes fund spokesperson Barnabos Xulu as saying: "I can confirm that we are far behind in achieving our budget."
The report also read that Congress of SA Trade Unions general-secretary Zwelinzima Vavi had said the matter was nearing a "crisis".
Xulu told the newspaper the trust aimed to raise R12-million to cover Zuma's legal costs.
Meanwhile fund-raising is to start in earnest early in 2006, according to trust chairperson Don Mkhwanazi, SABC radio reported.

Zuma is facing charges of corruption following what the Durban High Court described as his generally corrupt relationship with fraud- and corruption-convicted businessman Schabir Shaik, who was his friend and financial adviser. - Sapa
