Singapore - Wireless broadband technology such as 3G phones may expose children to unmonitored chatrooms where paedophiles often look for victims, the National Internet Advisory Committee (NIAC) warned in a report on Wednesday.
The danger is worsened because the cellphones are small, mobile and easy to operate without parental supervision, the committee warned in its annual report.
In recommending that the government monitor the development of these technologies, NIAC Chairperson Bernard Tan said, "It's better to anticipate the dangers before they come upon us."
The report also warned that the technology may expose children to other undesirable influences such as gambling. - Sapa-dpa
