The so-called hoax email trial involving former spy boss Billy Masetlha was postponed in the Pretoria specialised commercial crimes court on Thursday.
Magistrate Dawie Jacobs postponed the matter to September 18 to allow Intelligence Minister Ronnie Kasrils time to study documents relating to the matter.
In court proceedings on Thursday Kasrils said the dismissal of Masetlha was due to a breakdown in communication and also as the result of abuse of power and misuse of state resources.
Kasrils was responding after defence advocate Neil Tuchten again asked him what had led to Masetlha's dismissal.
According to Kasrils, Masetlha's dismissal was largely due to the inspector general's report that showed Masetlha in a negative light.

Earlier on Thursday, the court heard that the former spy boss had tried to advance ANC president Jacob Zuma's career prior to the Polokwane conference - according to the inspector general's report.
The report focused on the surveillance of businessman Saki Macozoma and contained documents on the so-called email hoax saga.
Masetlha, former NIA manager for electronic surveillance Funokwakhe Madlala, and IT expert Muziwendoda Kunene, are facing fraud charges relating to hoax emails implicating senior ANC members in a conspiracy against the Zuma, the ANC's then-deputy president. - Sapa
