 Bail granted to teacher accused of rape

The teacher accused of raping a pupil at Makhumbuza High School has been granted bail at the Umlazi Magistrate's Court.

Investigating officer Martin Booysen read the pupil's statement to magistrate Sam Hyrall on Wednesday.

She claims the accused followed her into an office and raped her.

The 45-year-old teacher is facing 17 charges of a sexual nature, which include four assault charges, sexual groping, sexual grooming and seven crimen injuria charges.

The accused, who has not pleaded, is due to appear in court on August 4. - Staff Reporter
