Representatives of Zulu King Goodwill Zwelithini on Tuesday boycotted a meeting called to mediate between animal rights activists, who are opposed to the killing of a bull as part of a Zulu ritual, and the royal household, which facilitates the ritual.
The meeting was convened by Pat Mkhize, of the Commission for the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Cultural and Linguistic Communities, and was attended by two animal rights representatives and Sipho Mdhluli, advisor to Premier Zweli Mkhize.
Representatives of the royal house did not attend, saying they felt it was of no use.

"We hold a view that if there is to be a meeting to discuss customs and culture, all cultural groups should be invited. We see no reason why Zulus should be singled out when there are so many cultural groups.
