A 21-year-old man was arrested in Sipholweni near Mount Ayliff after allegedly killing his father during a dispute over a paraffin stove, Eastern Cape police said on Friday.
"It is alleged that there was an argument between the two about a paraffin stove. The father argued that the young boy must not sit next to the paraffin stove because he had no money to buy another litre [of fuel]," said Inspector Mlungisi Matidane.
The incident happened on Thursday when the 43-year-old father told his son to leave the kitchen but the latter refused, and only moved towards the door.
"So the father took a stick in order to chase the boy. The boy drew a knife and stabbed the father once, he died instantly," said Matidane.
