A man arrested for possessing and distributing child pornography covered his head with a hood as he appeared at the Krugersdorp Magistrate's Court.

Magistrate Erina Breedt yesterday stared at the accused, who was shaking in the dock, and firmly ordered him: "Just take that hood off, please."
In haste, the accused took it off before turning to the gallery and shyly whispering a "Hi, lovey" to his girlfriend.

The 46-year-old man, who fixes computers for a living, cannot be named until he has pleaded to the charges. In his appearance, which lasted less than five minutes, the prosecutor asked for the matter to be postponed to Friday for a bail application.

He was arrested at his Muldersdrift home on Friday after a police raid. The police seized about 50 videotapes along with photos of naked children and adults, as well as computer software and hardware.
He allegedly made videotapes while having sex with children

He allegedly made videotapes while having sex with children. The videos showed children being sexually violated by adults. Some of the videos date back to 1997.

The videotapes were allegedly made in the veld and in Randburg.

The man is facing charges of rape, indecent assault, and possession as well as creation of child pornography.

Child Protection Unit head Superintendent André Neethling has appealed to women who worked for the accused in First Street, Blairgowrie, between 1997 and 2000 to contact the unit. The accused is of medium height and has blond hair.

"They (could) help because they were photographed in compromising positions," he said.

Throughout the proceedings, the girlfriend of the accused, dressed in black, covered her face with a jacket.

The accused was remanded in custody.
