A Russian couple from the Bluff, convicted of creation and possession of child pornography with their own children, is fighting to avoid going to jail.
A video clip lasting about one minute, and 78 images downloaded from the couple's computer depicting them performing various sexual acts with their children, as well as 120 other pornographic images downloaded from various websites, helped convict the pair.
The Russian doctor and his wife, who cannot be named, were arrested at their Durban home in August 2003 and were in court on Friday seeking lenience before sentencing.
A computer technician repairing the hard drive on the father's computer found photographs of the couple performing sexual acts on their three young children. He informed the police, who raided the house and arrested the parents. Their four children - the youngest only four days old - were placed in foster care.

'It's the interaction between younger boys and older woman that appeals to him' During the short trial, the pair pleaded not guilty to 26 charges, which included 11 counts of generating child pornography, 13 of indecently assaulting their nine-year-old son, four-year-old daughter and two-year-old son, and two charges under the Child Care Act.
One of the images shows the mother performing oral sex on the eight-year-old son. Other images show the two older children touching their father's penis and the older son looking at his mother while she posed naked with her legs open.
Magistrate Mike Lasich, in the Durban regional court, convicted the couple earlier this year on one count of indecent assault, one count of possession of child pornography and one count of creation of child pornography.
The father was also convicted of three counts of contravening the Sexual Offences Act in terms of committing sexual acts with children under the age of 16. They were acquitted of all other charges.
