As Sharks fans prepare for Saturday's big game against the Cheetahs, they have been warned that vuvuzelas will not be allowed into the stadium during rugby matches.

Four friends - Steffan Martens, Dean Fisher, Vegan Pillay and Riaan Lotter - learnt this the hard way.

At the Sharks versus the Bulls game last Saturday they had taken along and used their blue vuvuzelas, but were told just before half-time that they would be kicked out if they didn't stop using them.

'Not a part of rugby culture'
Martens said they were told by a security guard that they were not allowed to bring vuvuzelas into the stadium as they were "not a part of rugby culture".

"I was left frustrated. We weren't making a lot of noise. We only blew the vuvuzelas when there was a try or a conversion.

That was it, but before we knew it, there was a security guard telling us that they were going to kick us out."

Martens said they then had to hand over the vuvuzelas. "What angered me is when we were told that vuvuzelas were not a part of rugby culture.

A vuvuzela is made in South Africa and it should be a part of all South African sport.

'It's something that is unique to us'
"It's something that is unique to us."

Pillay said he was annoyed with the lack of communication from the stadium's management and the security guards.

"When we entered the stadium, we didn't hide the vuvuzelas," he said.

Absa Rugby Stadium Manager Gary Parker-Nance said that vuvuzelas were definitely not allowed at the stadium during rugby matches.

"This is because many of the rugby patrons have complained about the noise that emanates from the vuvuzela and we have to take into consideration what the majority of people want.
