Evictions protest in Eldorado Park
Some Eldorado Park residents were given RDP houses but they refused them - because they did not want to mix with other race groups.
City of Joburg spokesman Virgil James said houses were built in Freedom Park across the Golden Highway, a stone's throw from Eldorado Park, where people from all races were allocated houses.
"Sadly most of the people from Eldorado Park refused to take occupation of those houses and demanded that houses be built right in their township.
"They did not want houses where other race groups have been allocated houses."
But a resident, Craig de Lange, denied this, saying no coloureds from his area were ever allocated houses in Freedom Park.

"Freedom Park was initially earmarked for the coloured people of Eldorado Park, but soon everyone started moving in. What we're saying now is we want houses right here where we stay now," he said.
Another resident, William Volmink, said not more than 2 percent of Eldorado Park residents were allocated houses at Freedom Park.
She said they wanted houses in Eldorado Park because open spaces were being used by criminals.
Eldorado Park residents took to the streets in protest on Wednesday after a number of illegally erected shacks had been demolished by the Joburg metro police.
Residents have vowed to continue with their action, and yesterday set fire to tyres and blockaded roads.
There were reports of stones being thrown at cars.
Police in an Nyala armoured vehicle fired rubber bullets at protesters.
