Hundreds of women wearing pants will be marching on Saturday in the streets of Umlazi T-section to protest against a ruling that women have to wear dresses in the area.
The rule was implemented by the male hostel residents of the area. Gender activists and political parties will be supporting the women of T-section in the march.
The pants ban has enraged a number of women's organisations.
ANC Women's League spokesperson Nondumiso Cele urged all women of KZN to join the march and support the women of T-section as the ban infringed on their rights.
Noma Phungula, DA councillor of the eThekwini Municipality, said: "A strong message needs to be sent to these hooligans."

One female resident, Zinhle, a tertiary student, said: "When I leave the township I wear my skirt but when I get to campus I take off the skirt and put on my pants. In the afternoon I take off my pants and wear my skirt. I don't want to be harmed by those men."
Last week residents of T-section took a unanimous decision to uphold the ban on trousers.
"Those who want to march to this place wearing pants may do so, but they should not expect that we will change our minds," said Mkhonkothe Nzama, one of the headmen of T-section.
