The Hawks have vowed to monitor the Kuils River area carefully in the weeks leading up to the festive season because it has been the scene of so many armed robberies over the past few months.
Yesterday four men were killed by police in the Kuils River suburb of Soneike.
Residents dived behind bushes as the men, who had tried to rob a cash-in-transit van, exchanged fire with the police and security guards in the streets of Soneike.
Shaken Soneike residents said yesterday that shots were fired at the armed men from a police helicopter flying overhead.

Eyewitness Karliena Plaatjies said it was like a scene out of a movie.
