ZimOnline editor Abel Mutsakani is fighting for his life in a Johannesburg hospital after he was shot outside his home, the news agency reported on Thursday.
Mutsakani's wife Bianca said three assailants pounced around 9pm as he was parking his car at their house west of Johannesburg on Monday night.
Without saying a word, one of them pulled a gun and fired a shot at Mutsakani.
The bullet went through his raised elbow and ricocheted into his chest. It ruptured his lung and remains lodged near his heart.
The attackers fled without stealing anything.
Mutsakani's deputy Abel Chapatarongo said: "He is in a serious but stable condition. Doctors are still assessing whether they could perform surgery to remove the bullet."
