 Police seize R260 000 worth of cigarettes

A man and woman in Barberton were arrested on Sunday with counterfeit cigarettes worth R260 000, Mpumalanga police said.

The 43-year-old man and 33-year-old woman were stopped at a roadblock between Barberton and Badplaas at 6.15am, said Captain Leonard Hlathi.

"They searched the vehicle and they found 19 boxes of unlawful cigarettes. There were also 390 loose cartons. It was all to the value of R260 000. The suspects claimed they were heading for Johannesburg."

The pair would appear in the Badplaas Magistrates' Court on Monday. - Sapa
