Two men have been arrested for allegedly stealing and stripping a VW Jetta in Zola, Soweto police said on Tuesday.

"The car owner realised his car was missing at around 8pm on Monday. Fortunately, somebody told him who the thieves were and he knew them ... they then called police," said Inspector Kay Makhubele.

When police caught up with the two men, they had already taken out the licence disc, the radio and speakers, he said.

The men, both aged 22, were expected to appear in the Protea Magistrate's Court on charges of car theft. - Sapa
