Muziwakhe Themba Khubeka, the South African ambassador to Angola, appeared briefly in the Pinetown Magistrate's Court on Tuesday morning when charges of reckless and negligent driving and driving with a blood alcohol level over the prescribed limit were withdrawn against him.
Prosecutor Neville Loubser said this was because witness statements and a blood analysis report were outstanding.
He said once the investigation was completed, Khubeka, 61, would be summonsed to appear in court again.
The ambassador was arrested in Kloof, KwaZulu-Natal, in March this year. His Mercedes Benz, with tinted windows, was first spotted by private security guards, parked in a road in the suburb facing the wrong way.
