Three boys have been arrested for allegedly gang raping a 13-year-old girl and recording the incident on a cellphone, Katlehong police said on Thursday.

Captain Mega Ndobe said the girl was walking across an open veld in Katlehong on Tuesday afternoon when the boys, all aged 14, forced her to the ground and raped her.

"A sad thing is that during the rape they filmed the whole thing... and she knew who they were," said Ndobe.

The cellphone that was allegedly used to film the rape incident has been confiscated by police.

Ndobe said the boys were arrested on Wednesday as the girl only told her mother about the rape on Wednesday afternoon.
