A Mandeni family's search for a missing relative came to a tragic end when they learnt that the woman had killed her baby before leaping to her death from the 11th floor of a Durban centre building on Wednesday.
Police Captain Thulani Zwane said Nonkulunga Nzima, 36,had entered the Damjee Centre building in Bertha Mkhize (Victoria) Road and left her baby on the first floor before going up to the 11th floor, from where she jumped out of a window.
"It is suspected that the mother strangled her baby before jumping out of the building."
Bonginkosi Nzima, said his sister left home on Thursday, saying she was taking the baby to a local clinic. "We have been looking for her since that day. Her phone would ring but she would not answer it. We are devastated and shocked."
