 Seven in the dock after double murder

Seven people appeared in the Sabie Magistrate's Court on Monday in connection with the murder of Leon Steyn and his wife Hetta Steyn next to their guesthouse in October, Mpumalanga police said.

Cindy Sambo, 33, Dorah Sono, 36, Nicolas Ncosi Nyalungu, 24, Robert Wisani Mgiba, 19, Nicolas Mndawe, 24, Eddy Ouman Mohlala, 44, and Moses Iven Shebeleza Mokoena, 27 were not asked to plead, said Captain Leonard Hlathi.

The case was postponed to Friday for a bail application.

Hlathi said Sambo and Sono were employed by the Steyns. They were accused of conspiring with the others to kill the couple for money, he said.

The Steyns were shot at close range with a R-5 rifle in their home next to their guesthouse at Hendriksdal Railway Station, between Sabie and Nelspruit. - Sapa
