The man allegedly involved in Tuesday's hostage drama at First National Bank in Adderley Street is due to appear in the Cape Town regional court again on Friday.
Francis Qongo, 24, of Khayelitsha, appeared briefly in the court on Thursday and stood motionless in the dock.
Originally from Butterworth in Transkei, Eastern Cape, Qongo is facing charges of armed robbery and the illegal possession of a firearm.
However, State prosecutor Herald Engelbrecht requested on Thursday that the matter be postponed so that more charges could be formulated. The State will be opposing bail, he said.
The hostage drama unfolded in Cape Town's central business district on Tuesday morning when Qongo allegedly attempted to rob FNB's Adderley Street branch.

After allegedly holding branch manager Carine Pendlebury hostage at gunpoint, he was apprehended by police after hours of negotiations. The incident brought the city centre to a standstill.
No one was hurt in the incident.
In Tuesday's Cape Argus, the husband of the manager who was taken hostage was identified in a report as a bank supervisor.
He does not work at the bank.
This newspaper also reported that FNB would not comment on the incident. In fact, although reporters spoke to bank staff on the scene who did not wish to comment, the bank spokesperson was never contacted, as otherwise indicated in the report. Independent Online and the Cape Argus regret the errors.
