Three tourist roads near the Malelane entrance gate of the Kruger National Park (KNP) will be temporarily closed on Thursday.

This was to ensure the safety of visitors during a ranger demonstration taking place from 6am until 11am, the park said in a statement on Monday.

"We apologise in advance to our guests who have planned to visit the area on that day for any inconvenience, but assure them that the roads will only be closed for those five hours," said the park's Managing Executive Bandile Mkhize.

The KNP Ranger Day was an annual event where four regional rangers, 22 section rangers and over 200 field rangers demonstrated their skills to selected guests.

Demonstrations included the firing of live ammunition.

The park said roads affected were the S110 tar road between Berg en Dal Rest Camp and the turn-off from the H3 (near Malelane entrance gate), the S110 Matjulu gravel road and the S120 Steilberg gravel road.

"Guests that have booked into Berg en Dal Rest Camp during that period will be informed of the options available to them as and when they book into the camp," the statement said.

Other visitors were urged to visit alternative camps and picnic places in the area, which included Afsaal Picnic Site, Pretoriuskop Rest Camp and Skukuza Rest Camp. - Sapa
