A leading Durban hotel has dedicated an entire floor to accommodate female guests - a decision prompted by the increase in the number of single women business travellers.
And as the idea was introduced to make women feel safe, different floors are used from time to time.
Although there have been no specific incidents at Durban's five-star Royal Hotel, women travellers internationally feel they are at risk from men, who follow them to their rooms after seeing them eating alone in hotel restaurants.
"A lot of women are scared to travel on their own. The idea came from women guests and we are pleased to be able to provide the service they wanted," said general manager David Church.

| 'We are pleased to be able to provide the service they wanted' | Now, with more and more female corporate travellers, the Royal's dedicated floor is proving popular.
Guests get their own female butlers who are on duty 18 hours day, and whose duties include room and beverage service, helping with airline reservations, valet and secretarial services, restaurant and tour bookings and transport arrangements.
And special feminine touches have been added to rooms to make guests feel comfortable and at home. There are flowers, specialist magazines, a specially designed bathrobe, petals in the bathroom and even a pink manicure set.
"There are some lovely touches," said guest Lauren Spencer.
