It will be virtually impossible for passengers caught up in the cancellation of Civair airline flights from the United Kingdom to find a seat to South Africa over the holiday season - unless they are prepared to pay exorbitant fares.
Local airlines said on Wednesday that they were fully booked throughout December and that the only remaining seats were in business and first class.
About 500 passengers who booked with low-cost airline Civair for flights from the UK to South Africa were told their departure date - which has been changed twice - had been postponed to December 18 for "reasons beyond Civair's control".

One of the Civair passengers, Jacques Naude - who works in London as an Information Technology consultant - said he had hoped to spend Christmas with his family and friends but was now desperate to find another booking.
He said he was aware that he would now be forced to fork out thousands of rands trying to book a seat.
The airline said refunds would be "instantaneous" for South African passengers. It can be contacted via email at info@civair.com.
