Chicago - A week-old baby, abducted after her mother's throat was slit, was returned home in good health, police said on Wednesday, as the jailed alleged abductor waited to be charged.
Franklin County, Missouri, Sheriff Gary Toelke credited Dorothy Torrez, the accused abductor's sister-in-law, with providing the break in the case.
"All the leads that we had were good leads, but it just took one out of the ordinary that helped," he told reporters in Union, Missouri.
Torrez identified baby Abby Wood by her strawberry birthmark, as described on police notices.
"It worked and we had a happy outcome because of it," he said.

Abigale Lynn Woods was snatched on Saturday, after the alleged attacker slashed the throat of her mother, Stephenie Ochsenbine, 21, police said.
The alleged attacker, Shannon Beck, is in custody, the sheriff's department said. She is expected to be charged later on Wednesday with kidnapping, assault and burglary.
"My heart just burst open," the baby's great-grandmother, Ruth Burlage, told CNN television after hearing that the baby, now 12 days old, had been found on Tuesday.
Beck was thought to have snatched baby Abby out of despair over a late-term miscarriage late last week, local media reported.
Torrez noticed that something was amiss when Beck, her sister-in-law, showed off what she said was her newborn baby.
Torrez saw that makeup had been applied to the baby's forehead, and when it was removed, she saw a strawberry birthmark that matched the police description.
Police said Beck may have known of the new baby in Ochsenbine's home because of a lawn sign announcing the birth.
