 Safety fire test completely razes club

Geneva - A club owner burned his business to the ground while trying to prove to health and safety inspectors that it was fire-proof.

Benedict Frank, owner of the Cabaret Club in Kienberg, Switzerland, started the fire to show how safe it was when he was visited by safety inspectors.

They had asked whether his decorations were in keeping with fire safety rules, and he used his lighter to set fire to the paper ornaments in an effort to show there was nothing to worry about.

But the fire quickly spread throughout the club and the neighbouring restaurant - burning both to the ground.

Local police said no one was hurt in the fire, but the damage is estimated at more than £300 000 (about R3,4-million). - Ananova.com
