Moscow - A zoo in Kaliningrad opened a contest this week to name it's newest recruit, a baby Giraffe from the Berlin zoo.

The only stipulation from Berlin was the name begin with an "I" to match the baby's mother Ida and sister Iva.

But the most popular submissions so far: To name the infant Giraffe after a Russian ballistic missile system, Iskander.

The appellation held force after President Dmitry Medvedev threatened on Tuesday to site the missiles in the Balitc Sea exclave aimed at planned US missile objects in Poland.

Zoo park staff were cited by Russian media as saying on Thursday that 30 name variations had been submitted and the winner would be chosen in an Internet vote. They have not stricken Iskander from the list. - Sapa-dpa
