Cologne, Germany - A 19-year-old German woman has been arrested for biting off the ear of a 27-year-old woman following an argument in an Internet chat room, police said on Friday.

After the online dispute, the older woman turned up at the 19-year-old's door in Cologne late on Thursday and proceeded to hit her with a beer bottle. In the ensuing scuffle the younger woman then bit the other's ear.

The ear "then was partially ripped off following a movement of the head," Cologne police said. "To defend herself against further attacks the younger woman injured her adversary with a knife."

Police arrested the 19-year-old, who will now stand trial on charges of grievous bodily harm. The older woman's ear was sewn back on in hospital but she also faces criminal proceedings, police said.
