Copenhagen - Denmark's biggest bookstore has an offer for customers who want to pre-order a copy of former American president Bill Clinton's memoir My Life in Danish - order now and get a free book on the history of cigars, too.
"It's an innocent practical joke in a nod to his affair" with Monica Lewinsky, said Jonathan Loew of the Bog & Ide bookstore chain, which has 61 stores in Denmark. "The connection between the two books should be obvious for those who have followed the life of Clinton."
The inclusion of the companion volume, The Great Book On Cigars, alludes to claims that Clinton, while president, used a cigar as a sex toy during his affair with Lewinsky.

Loew said that his company decided to pair the memoir with the book on cigars, which retails for 149 kroner (about R150), as a promotional stunt.
The Danish-language version of Clinton's bestseller (Mit Liv in Danish) is expected to be released in the Scandinavian country of 5.4 million in late August or early September at a cost of 399 kroner.
Clinton received a reported $10-million (about R60-million) for My Life, which Knopf published on June 22 with a first printing of 1.5 million copies. The former president's memoir is already in its third printing, with the total print run just under 2.6 million. It sold 400 000 copies on the first day alone, believed to be a record for nonfiction.
Sales of the English-language version of Clinton's book in Denmark have reached about 500 for Bog & Ide, said Leif Soerensen, who has been in charge of the Clinton memoir sale, adding that most buyers appear to be waiting for the Danish version instead.
"Many felt that reading a book in English that was that thick was maybe over the top and said they wanted to wait for the translation," he said, referring to the 1 008-page tome.
The publisher, Lindhardt og Ringhof Forlag, hasn't said how many copies of My Life it will print and has not announced its exact release date. - Sapa-AP
