Dhaka - An economics lecturer in Bangladesh has threatened legal action after he received a short, but not so sweet, cellphone text message informing him that he had been suspended.
"The governing body of the college has decided to suspend you. Don't come to the college premises anymore," read the text message sent on Sunday to Gazi Saiful Islam by Khanadakar Mushtaq Ali, principal of Pioneer College in Dhaka.
Ali said he sent the suspension notice by text message because notification by mail would have taken too long.
"There are some specific charges against him, which include womanising. It prompted the authorities to take a tough decision and they wanted me to convey the decision very quickly," Ali said.

Islam, however, said the notification was not proper and that he was considering taking legal action against the college.
"There are some norms and procedures to sack an employee. You cannot use SMSes to convey a very serious decision to a person," he said. - Sapa-AFP
