Vienna - The presence of 25 000 heart specialists could not prevent the death of a 46-year old Italian cardiologist who died after collapsing at an international cardiology meeting in Vienna, reports said on Monday.
The woman had been immediately revived after she collapsed on Sunday, by one of the 25 000 doctors present at the annual meeting of the European Society of Cardiology taking place in the Austrian capital from September 1 to 5.
She was flown into Vienna's general hospital for treatment. Her condition remained critical, and she died late on Sunday evening, the Austrian press agency said.
Her death was caused by a congenital malformation of the heart, chief medic Reinhard Krepler said.
