By focusing on high profile corruption cases, the media contributed to a "negative psychosis" that South Africa was generally corrupt, Public Service Minister Geraldine Fraser-Moleketi said on Monday.
She gave examples such as the case of ANC deputy president Jacob Zuma, and the Travelgate scandal.
The minister said in fact that in most cases it was the government which exposed corruption.
Fraser-Moleketi was talking at the conclusion of a meeting of the National Anti-Corruption Forum in Pretoria, where the SA National Editors Forum presented a report on investigative journalism on corruption.
The forum said the media should go beyond investigative journalism, and play a more empowering and educational role.

It said positive developments in the combating of corruption should also be reported more vigorously. - Sapa
