Protesters have called for the head of SABC news boss Snuki Zikalala and for a new board at the public broadcaster.
The Freedom of Expression Institute (FXI) and the Social Movement Indaba picketed the public broadcaster's Sea Point offices on Wednesday as part of week-long nationwide protests against the SABC.
They accused Zikalala of being a "government stooge" and "propagandist" and called on the board to implement the recommendations of the Sisulu commission of inquiry into the blacklisting of political commentators by the broadcaster.

The FXI's Torong Ramela said the SABC ought to stop censoring the news in favour of the ruling ANC.
"The SABC fails to show incidents like the booing of Deputy President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka because these incidents do not paint the government in a positive light.
"The 'Snukification' and 'Dalification' of the broadcaster should end now," he said, referring to Zikalala and chief executive Dali Mpofu.
Board members such as Thami Mazwai and chairperson Eddie Funde were not spared angry words either.
In November, the FXI lodged a complaint against the SABC with the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa, in which it argued that the broadcaster had violated its founding statute, the Broadcasting Act, its licence conditions and the SA constitution.
Ramela said the broadcaster had "lost the plot" by flighting educational programmes in the mid-mornings when school-going children were at school.
