 Swine flu cases in Britain over 100

London - Fourteen new cases of swine flu were confirmed on Sunday in Britain, pushing the total number of cases of the virus in the country over 100.

"Fourteen further patients under investigation in England have today been confirmed with swine flu bringing the current total number of confirmed UK cases to 101," said a statement from the Health Protection Agency (HPA).

Of the 14 new cases, 10 were in London, three were in southeastern England, and one was in eastern England, said the HPA.

Six of them were adults and eight were children: all but one of them had had contact with previously confirmed cases or had recently travelled abroad.

Just over half the 101 confirmed cases of A(H1N1) influenza have been in the capital London, with most of the others scattered throughout England, eight in Scotland and one in Northern Ireland.

They were all recovering at home, and their close contacts were receiving antiviral drugs as a precaution. - AFP
