Damascus - A Polish archeological expedition has recently unearthed a unique statue of the winged Goddess of Triumph in the ancient city of Palmyra in north-eastern Syria, Syria's official news agency SANA said on Sunday.

It said the goddess was depicted in a transparent dress clearly revealing her beauty and femininity.

The discovery was made at an archeological temple during a scientific inspection in the site.

Pottery had also been discovered.

SANA quoted the head of the Palmyra Antiquities Department as saying the statue was "very important", noting that it may go back to the second or third millennium. - Sapa-dpa
