Solidarity has concluded a wage agreement with the Nuclear Energy Corporation of South Africa, the union announced on Friday.

Solidarity, the Phelindaba Worker's Union and Necsa had agreed on an 8,5 percent increment for workers, Solidarity spokesperson Jaco Kleynhans said in a statement. This would be back-dated to April 1.

"A once-off bonus of 10,8 percent of employees' salaries is also included in the agreement," Kleynhans said.

In addition, a model for scarce skills allowances would be drafted and put into effect on August 1.

"This year's wage negotiations were challenging, but the implementation of the allowance for scarce skills and the bonus system in particular can be regarded as a victory..." Kleynhans said.
