Four people died and three were critically injured on Thursday when a contract worker caused mayhem with a bulldozer at a construction site near Ga-Rankuwa, north of Pretoria, police said.
Contract workers on lunch at the site decided to board the Caterpillar bulldozer and one of them switched it on, said Inspector Matthews Nkoadi.
However, it soon got out of control on the steep and rocky terrain, and seven people on the vehicle were thrown off in all directions.
One woman was cut in half when she was thrown out of the bulldozer onto the rocky ground, and others were slashed on their heads and bodies, said Nkoadi.

"The man who was driving the bulldozer did not know how to operate it correctly."
Three women, between the ages of 20 and 25, were killed together with one 30-year-old man. Three other people were in a critical condition in hospital, he said.
He said many other construction workers at the scene were also injured.
A case of negligence would be opened against the contractor at the site, and a case of culpable homicide would also be opened, Nkoadi said. - Sapa
