Youth unemployment could lead to "another 1976" Congress of Trade Unions (Cosatu) general-secretary Zwelinzima Vavi warned on Saturday.

He was speaking at the 11th annual summit of the National Economic Development and Labour Council (Nedlac).

Warning that youth unemployment could "lead to another 1976", Vavi called on for an agreement of investment that would address five percent to be set aside for job creation and the development of social infrastructure.

He said Cosatu would not stop harping on the needs of the realisation of these goals.

"We wont stop raising this until it is resolved at Nedlac," he told the summit at Midrand North of Johannesburg.
