 ANC officially asks Mbeki to go

President Thabo Mbeki has officially been asked by the ANC to resign as head of state, a member of the ruling party's leadership confirmed on Saturday.

The decision will see several key govenrment excutives also resign including Deputy President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka.

It is understood that parliament will reconvene next week to formalise the process.

Denzil Taylor, spokesperson for Deputy President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka said on Saturday morning that should parliament reconvene she would step down.
