Thies, Senegal - President Abdoulaye Wade, 83, said on Wednesday that he was confident of re-election in 2012 for a third term as he faces a quiet opposition.
Wade said he could choose not to campaign in 2012. But, he added, "Why should I, and who should I campaign against?"
"Ever since I declared my candidacy, there has been no echo (from the opposition). That means the game is already over," Wade asked during the inauguration of an assembly plant for Chinese buses in the western city of Thies.
He also called on dissidents from his party to return.
"I want the whole liberal family to reunify" with the incumbent Senegalese Democratic Party, including ex-prime minister Macky Sall, Wade said.

"I am not making this appeal to win, but I want someone to carry on my work when God decides my time is up," Wade said.
Wade was met in Thies by city Mayor Idrissa Seck, another ex-prime minister who came second to Wade in the presidential election in 2007.
In local elections in March Wade's party suffered a significant setback when the opposition won several big cities, including the capital Dakar. - AFP
