Kampala - An American missionary was killed during a burglary in eastern Uganda at the weekend, police here said Sunday.

Michael Stachofsky was shot dead early on Saturday in the town of Mbale where he ran a water project.

Stachofsky's wife Patti Sue, who was not hurt during the attack, told police the intruders had demanded money from her husband but he had refused and tried to force them out of the house when they shot him and fled.

"We are investigating the incident, but no arrests have been made," police spokesman Asuman Mugenyi said.
