Windhoek - Hollywood couple Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's chief bodyguard faces legal action in Namibia, where they had their first child, on charges of assaulting a restaurant owner, a lawyer said on Friday.

Irish-born Mickey Brett will be summoned before a Namibian court for allegedly beating up Theuns Duvenhage and damaging his eye, his lawyer Piet Burger told AFP, adding that the court had granted an arrest order.

"But since Brett is a foreign national and about to leave the country, we abandoned the arrest because he deposited a sum of money as security at his lawyer's office, covering the damages claimed plus legal costs," Burger said.

"We now contemplate when to have the summons issued to Brett and the law will take its course". Burger added. Once the case opens in court, Brett would have to return to Namibia to testify.

Jolie and Pitt became the parents of their first biological child, Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt, on May 27 in Namibia, where the alleged high-handed behaviour of their bodyguards has been the subject of considerable controversy.

In his complaint, Duvenhage said he was shooed off from an area where the Hollywood stars were present by the bodyguards but admitted making an "offending sign" before driving off.

He said Brett gave chase, forced his car off the road and then hit, kicked and punched him. Duvenhage is claiming 60 000 Namibian dollars (about R60 000) in damages. - Sapa-AFP
