Harare - Zimbabwean police failed to act as a white farmer was shot dead on Tuesday, the 20th anniversary of the country's independence, a farmer charged.
Relating to AFP the events leading to the murder of Martin Olds, early on Tuesday, a neighbour, who requested anonymity, said police were called but failed to do anything to help.
"The police did not aid ... that's the crux of the matter," the neighbour told AFP in a telephone interview from Nyamandlovu in the southwest province of Matabeleland.
She said the police had seen vehicles carrying the black squatters away from Olds' farm after the shooting, but did not bother to stop them.

Olds was the second white farmer killed in Zimbabwe in the space of four days. David Stevens was shot dead from point black range on Saturday after black squatters occupied his farm.
The Zimbabwean police, who have defied a court order to evict the squatters from up to 1 000 white-owned farms, have been accused of turning a blind eye to the invasions and the violence which has surrounded them. - Sapa-AFP
