The lawyer for the 62 alleged mercenaries in a Zimbabwean prison said on Friday he was "very disappointed" but he expected them to be released from prison this weekend after several delays.

When asked what was holding up their release, Alwyn Griebenow replied: "I wish I knew. The Zimbabwean authorities are very difficult to deal with. They feed you a lot of disinformation."

Immigration officials have changed their minds several times about releasing the 62. They have also refused to divulge how and when the group will return to South Africa.

"They told us we can take our bus and basically f**k off," Griebenow said from Harare earlier on Friday.

The group were accused of being part of an Equatorial Guinea coup plot.
