Sao Domingos, Guinea-Bissau - Fighting resumed on Sunday between Guinea-Bissau troops and Senegalese separatists in the north of Guinea-Bissau, military sources said.

It was the fourth consecutive day of clashes between Guinea-Bissau's army and recalcitrant members of the Movement of Democratic Forces of Casamance, a Senegalese group whose main wing is engaged in a peace process with Dakar.

Guinea-Bissau military sources said a member of the die-hard group, led by Salif Sadio, had died of his battle wounds Saturday.

A Guinea-Bissau soldier and two other separatists were also reported to have been killed during clashes on Friday.

Military officials have said the Guinea-Bissau army was trying to destroy the rebel bases, which straddle the border with the southern Senegalese province of Casamance, where a separatist rebellion first emerged 23 years ago. - Sapa-AFP
